Avril hasn't always had the easiest time dating. Her mother is very protective, and there were a lot of rules at home. " I wasn't allowed to have a guy in my room, especially not with the door shut, and she wouldn't let me call guys. They had to call me," Avril admits. " I have that attitude now that if a guy wants to hook up with me, he can come after me!"

Avril is single right now, maybe because guys are intimidated by her fiesty attitude. But Avril has a soft side that has come out in her songs. For example, she says about "sk8er Boi:" " I wrote that song at the piano. I was kind of depressed that day and really felt alone. I had no one in my life, I had no companionship and I was like, ' Wheres my guy? When am I gonna find him?' It's like an emotional song. It talks about being alone, and how I want somebody." Avril has also written about being burned in the past. On "Too Much To Ask," she lashes out at an ex for doing drugs and blowing her off. "He'd choose to get high instead of be with me," says Avril. "He was [jerk]. I liked him-and I wanted [a relationship]." Her song "Unwanted" is about trying to please an ex's parents, but they simply didn't think Avril was good enough for their son{jerks!}. "It's important when you have a boyfriend to go over to the house and bond with the parents," she says. "I was really polite to them. I had dinner with them, and I had my manners, like, 'Can I help you with anything? Can I wash the dishes?' But they didn't want me with their boy. I guess they thought I was a bit wild for him. I was so hurt by that."

Her Love Letters For Sale
Recently, Avril was betrayed by a boy she left behind in her home town of Napanee. A guy named Blake Thompson, who said he dated Avril in highschool, tried to sell her love notes on Ebay{jerk!}. Luckily for Avril, the notes were immediately removed from the Web site due to copyright issues and for her own privacy. Even though Avril has been sort of unlucky in love, she's not giving up. "If I had a boyfriend, I would cherish him so much," she says. "I might look like a tough chick, and I am, but I'm also a hopeless romantic."-M Magazine
