Twist Magazine: Spotlight on: Avril Lavigne

Avril's back with a darker sound and some super-introspective lyrics on Under My Skin.

Though her songs are decidedly darker on her new album, Under My Skin, Avril claims she's at a good place in life. "Everything's great," she says. "I have amazing friends. I get to make records and release them." Still, her sunny outlook didn't stop her from rocking out on her follow-up to 2002's Let Go. " My singles are like pop songs, [but] I like a lot of guitars, and I like a heavy sound," she says. As for the subject matter, she says: "[It's kind of] dark stuff." So what's the source of all that gloomy angst? Well, she does admit that boys have been getting, er, under her skin lately. "Some guys pretend they're nice and sweet, just to get a piece, or whatever," she reveals. "They need to grow up. When you're my age and you go through dating and stuff, sometimes you're like, 'Ahhh!'" Yeah, we know how complicated boys can be, Av!
