Fans of Avril's have been watching her amazing transformation from a tomboy to a grown woman. Here are some pictures of Avril at red carpet events and photo shoots to show you just how much Mrs. Whibley's style has evolved in the course of five years in the spotlight.

L-R: MTV Video Music Awards 2002, Rolling Stone Photo Shoot, Fairview Mall performance.
Classic Avril circa 2002. Avril is at the MTV Video Music Awards in the first picture (having just won the moon man for Best New Artist). At this time, Avril was into wearing ties, spiky bracelets, wife beaters, and baggy pants. She was really into buying Dickies tank tops, which she wore a lot. This tomboyish, "punk rockish" sort of look caused some controversy because some people felt that you couldn't categorize punk music into a style. Anyway, Avril soon dropped the ties (which she actually had a suitcase full of) that she had became known for but kept some of that style in the clothes she wears today.

L-R: Promo picture, Vogue, Grammy Awards.
Still with the "poker-straight" hair as some referred to it, but obviously the ties are gone. This is also the year of the "Grammy outfit" where instead of wearing a traditional dress like many female nominees were sporting, Avril being the original gal she is, wore a top hat, a belt with a silver skull on it, black trousers, and a jacket that when opened said "ROCK ON". Avril's style was slowly becoming more feminine and it was starting to show. |

L-R: Maxim, Elle Girl and the World Music Awards.
And so begins Avril's feminine transformation. In August 2004, she graced the cover of Elle Girl wearing corsets and tutus. This was the theme for the Under My Skin CD photo shoots as well. Avril also appeared in men's magazine, Maxim wearing her now trademark corsets and her baggy pants. Avril wore her first dress to an award show this year to the World Music Awards. But don't be fooled - Avril was wearing a dress with SKULLS all over it! |

L-R: Zipper Magazine, Cosmopolitan, out and about with Deryck.
Avril's feminine transformation is complete at this point. Avril is in love and is growing up. Her style has changed and so has her refusals to wear dresses during photoshoots. In YM magazine [2002], Avril says that at photoshoots they would have all these dresses for her to wear but she would refuse to do it and wearing her tomboy pieces that she was wearing when she came in to do the shoot! I think a Britney Spears song best fits Avril at this period - she's not a Girl, not yet a Woman. She's still wearing pieces that she wore from 2002 and mixed it in with high end fashion pieces. Avril's style has clearly now become more eclectic and at this rate - she's on her way to becoming a style icon. |

L-R: Harper's Bazaar, Citizen K, her wedding day.
Avril at this point has signed a contract with Ford Models and is getting all sorts of gorgeous clothes from designers. Avril has done several photoshoots for magazines showing that she's grown up. She also attended her first fashion show in Paris early in January and mingled with Chanel god Karl Lagerfeld. It is only a matter of time before Avril *hopefully* scores an endorsement deal with a haute couture line. It is clear that Avril is now a woman at age 21. She said it best in a quote found in Harper's Bazaar, "I'll look back at old pictures [of myself] and think, I was such a tough little ass." |
| 2007

L-R: People, MTV Latin American Awards, Oxegen Festival.
Avril has evolved and we're all taking notice. This was the year Avril released The Best Damn Thing. She had pink extensions and wore more gorgeous designer pieces. She is now a woman and she's fully embracing it. She manages to mix high end designer things with her trademark skull favorites. She still opts for the color black but she uses a lot of Tarina Tarantino pieces to accesorize. She wore more skirts this year but dresses on the red carpet. She matched a lot of her dresses with skull and star necklace pieces and Converse tennis shoes.
