June 4 - "Let Go" is released.
Avril hit the Top 40 with "Complicated." Avril said about the song: "I was fed up with people being two-faced and phony. It can be a boyfriend or a friend or people you work with... That's what that song's about: people being fake."
Avril released her debut LP - Let Go. She said of the LP: "I couldn't go as alternative on this record as I wanted to, but I just didn't want to be bubblegum pop."
Performed Complicated at her first awards show, MuchMusic Video Awards.

Avril hit the Top 10 with "Complicated" and #1 for 5 weeks by month's end.
Let Go was certified platinum.

August
Avril topped the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart with "Complicated."
"Complicated" topped the charts in Canada.
Avril hit the Top 40 with "Sk8er Boi."
Avril's video for "Complicated" won a MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist.

Avril is on the cover of popular teen girl magazine 'Seventeen'
5th - a great day for music as ‘Let Go’ is finally at number 1 in the album charts in all of the UK – go Avril! It took some time getting there but now it’s at number 1 and rightly so! Congratulations to Avril!
Avril is nominated for 5 Grammy's.

March 20, 2003 - Avril is on the cover of Rolling Stone wearing a skirt. So far, this is the most un-tomboyish thing Avril has worn.

Hilary Duff calls Avril out for bashing fans for tie-wearing - a quote that was misconstrued by a popular magazine in Asia. Duff says (to the effect) "I would never bash my fans." Avril hits back at Hilary, calling her a goody-goody.

Avril is on the cover of popular women's magazine 'Cosmopolitan'

May 25 - "Under My Skin" is released in the US. It hits #1 in the US, UK, Germany, Japan, Australia, Canada, Spain, Ireland, Thailand, Korea, and Hong Kong.

Nobody's Home video is premiered on MTV.

Avril performs a surprise show at Westfield Sports High School in Sydney, Australia.
2nd - Princess Diaries 2 soundtrack comes out with "I Always Get What I Want" (B-Side for Under My Skin) and a song Avril wrote sung by Kelly Clarkson entitled "Breakaway"

Avril performs at the World Music Awards alongside new rhythm guitarist Devin (of the band GOB)
Avril performs "Iris" alongside Johnny Reznick for "Fashion Rocks".

Avril is on the cover of Teen Vogue magazine alongside Usher.
Maxim Magazine hits newsstands in the US featuring Avril on its cover. It's a very sexy photo shoot - but not overtly sexual.

21st - Avril performs at the Medal Plaza for Olympics Day 11.
26th - Avril performs "Who Knows" for the Olympics Closing Ceremony.
Avril has 3 page spread in "Harper's Bazaar" magazine. She is made over and wearing haute couture. She has obviously matured in her clothing tastes (although she still holds on to the fact that she absolutely loves the color black) and now likes to dress feminine because she IS older now.

Avril campaigns for ALDO Fights Aids campaign, with ads circulating in magazines throughout the world.
Avril sells her house in Cabbagetown in Canada.

Avril attends US Weekly's Hot Young Hollywood Party and is given "Hottest Rock Star Style" title.
